Position the Battalion Identification Patch.

Picture

From approximately late 1915 a form of identification was required for the various battalion sized uits of the ever increasing British Army. This was essential for the ease of identification of movement of large bodies of troops in and around the battle area. The system adopted was in the form of a sleave patch. All manner of forms and combination of colours were used. The size used also varied considerably.

The form used by the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers was an oblong patch = red/yellow/red (illustrated at left), and worn upon both sleeves.

Picture

Examples of the various forms used within the same regiment can be seen from the illustration at left. These are all battalions of the Lancashire Fusiliers,
with battalion identification as used by the 2nd Battalion shown at top-centre.

PictureDimensions.

The size for the 2nd Battalion Identification Patch is:-
Length = 3-inch.
Height = 2-inch.

As illustrated, there are three sections = Red / Yellow / Red.

Each of the sections is:-
Length = 1-inch.
Height = 2-inch.
